Introduction

Christmas Eve 2008, my doctor informed me that my biopsy for skin cancer showed positive beyond the margins and surgery was required. As you can imagine, the "C" word was not what I wanted to hear while preparing for Christmas and the urgency in the doctor's voice was unnerving. The surgery was scheduled and my husband and I had time to think about the consequences of what was in front of us.

By the end of the weekend, my thirst for answers grew into an obsession and a plan. My first action item was to cancel my surgery since it took many years to grow what was the harm in waiting a few more months? The second action item was to find an alternative method for treatment.
